Bill Betts was a rock-radio programmer whose career included a key period as program director of KKFM in Colorado Springs during the mid-to-late 1980s. Industry records place Betts in charge of KKFM by 1986. A December 1986 FMQB classified sought a production director for KKFM and directed applicants to Betts at the station’s Lakewood Circle studios. By August 1987, FMQB listed the KKFM programming team as PD Bill Betts and music director Mark Stevens. Betts remained at KKFM until 1989, when Radio & Records reported that he was recruited as program director of KBPI in Denver; Chris Baker succeeded him at KKFM. Betts later became general manager of Citadel’s Modesto properties, including KATM, and in 2003 Clear Channel named him operations manager for its Salt Lake City cluster, overseeing seven stations. His Colorado Springs tenure links several generations of KKFM programming leadership: Betts worked with Mark Stevens as music director and was succeeded as PD by Chris Baker.
