COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Charley Samson

Charley Samson was a longtime Denver classical-radio personality whose career was closely tied to KDEN/KVOD and later Colorado Public Radio. A teenage visit to KDEN-FM helped inspire him to combine his interest in classical music with broadcasting.

Samson began on air at the University of Colorado’s classical KRNW, then worked at KTGM before joining Gene Amole and Ed Koepke’s KDEN operation. He remained with KDEN/KVOD for 19 years; one memorable assignment was the station’s celebration of Beethoven’s 200th birthday in 1970.

After several years away from radio, Samson returned to classical broadcasting at Colorado Public Radio’s KCFR.
