Gene Amole was a Denver broadcaster, journalist and columnist whose radio career stretched across several of the city’s important stations. By the mid-1950s he and Ed Koepke owned KDEN-AM, and together they developed KDEN-FM on 99.5.
Their AM/FM operation mixed popular music and jazz with classical programming. Amole’s enthusiasm for classical music helped shape the FM station into KVOD, the commercial “Voice of Denver,” in 1969. Amole remained closely identified with KVOD’s approachable presentation of classical music until the station was sold in 1983.
Earlier Denver radio records also place Amole in news and announcing roles, and his later career included a long-running Denver newspaper column.
