COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Jennifer Bell

Jennifer Bell was a longtime Colorado Springs radio personality and programmer whose documented work includes KYSN 1460, KILO 94, KATM 100.7 and KKCS.

The earliest record located by the Colorado Radio Archive is a Dec. 8, 1978 Radio & Records personnel item reporting that Jennifer Bell had joined KYSN for all-nights from KBRR in Leadville. The 1980 Fred Directory of Radio still lists Jennifer Bell on KYSN from midnight to 5 a.m.

By August 1983, contemporary trade coverage places Jennifer Bell at KILO. Billboard reported that Bell and Dave Brull became the station’s morning team, Bell & Brull, while Bell continued as Assistant Program Director. A separate R&R item that month also announced Bell and Brull in KILO mornings. KILO’s own historical photo archive preserves Bell at station events in 1984 and 1986.

Bell remained a prominent part of KILO through the mid-1980s. An April 1986 Billboard photo caption explicitly identifies her as KILO’s morning personality. An April 1987 Radio & Records photo identifies her alongside KILO personalities Red Noize and Alan White during a Tesla promotion, and another 1984 R&R photo shows Bell interviewing rally driver Michèle Mouton during the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

By 1990, Bell was Music Director at KATM 100.7/The Kat. Hitmakers repeatedly listed her as KATM MD during the station’s Rock 40/album-rock transition, and period music-industry pages quoted Bell on new rock releases. The 1991 and 1992 Broadcasting Yearbooks continued to identify Jennifer Bell as KATM Music Director under PD Mark Blake at 6760 Corporate Drive.

When Salem’s purchase of KATM was moving toward completion in 1992, Bell moved to KKCS. Billboard reported on July 18, 1992 that Jennifer Bell had joined KKCS for nights, replacing Rick Jason, and specifically noted that she had been at KATM immediately beforehand.

Archive identity note: the KILO → KATM → KKCS sequence is directly documented by contemporary sources. The earlier KYSN/KBRR record carries the same name in the same Southern Colorado radio market and is currently retained on this profile, but the archive has not yet located a period source that explicitly states Bell’s transition from KYSN to KILO.
