COLORADO RADIO PERSONALITY

Jim “Catfish” Miller

Jim “Catfish” Miller was a key programmer in the launch and early years of Cat Country 95.1 in Colorado Springs.

In June 2006, Citadel began operating KRDO-FM under a local marketing agreement ahead of its purchase of the station. On June 30, after 23 hours of Brooks & Dunn’s “Play Something Country,” the former Hot AC “Peak 95.1” flipped to Country as Cat Country 95.1. Radio & Records reported that the new station’s Program Director was eight-year Citadel veteran Jim “Catfish” Miller, who transferred to Colorado Springs from KQFC/Boise, where he had been Assistant Program Director/Music Director.

Miller told the trade publication that Cat Country would take an aggressive approach to new music, with roughly 65 percent of its playlist consisting of currents and recurrents. The station’s launch-era 2006 weekday lineup became CK & Alisha mornings, Cutter middays, Catfish Miller afternoons and Jeff Zaiger nights. CK moved from sister KKMG/Magic FM to KATC in August 2006. Zaiger left in October 2006 and Bryan Waters replaced him at night. The launch placed the new Cat Country directly against Clear Channel’s established KCCY and came while heritage country competitor KKCS was being dismantled.

By July 2007, Country Aircheck identified Miller as KATC/Colorado Springs Program Director and reported that he was recruiting a new morning host from the station’s facility at 6805 Corporate Drive, Suite 130.
