Jim Murphy is a country-radio programmer whose career included national network leadership and a period as program director of KATC in Colorado Springs.
Before arriving at KATC, Murphy spent approximately 15 years with Jones Radio Networks and its successor operations, ultimately serving as vice president of country programming for Jones/Dial Global. His work there placed him in a national programming role overseeing country-radio content distributed to affiliate stations.
Murphy joined Cumulus-owned KATC “Cat Country” in Colorado Springs in April 2011 as program director. His tenure came during a period of active competition among Southern Colorado country stations and brought a programmer with extensive national-format experience into the local market.
In June 2012, Country Aircheck reported that Murphy was leaving KATC after 14 months to join the faculty of the Ohio Center for Broadcasting’s Colorado campus as Director of Career Services. Cumulus cluster operations manager Bobby Irwin temporarily assumed KATC programming responsibilities after Murphy’s departure.
