Michael Floorwax is the on-air name of Michael Steinke, a Denver radio personality, comedian and singer best known as half of the long-running Lewis & Floorwax morning show.
Lewis & Floorwax
Floorwax and Rick Lewis began their KRFX-FM morning show in July 1990. The program’s mix of local satire, characters, stunts and listener interaction made it one of the most popular shows in Denver radio history. Its success lasted for more than 24 years and made the pair prominent figures far beyond the station’s classic-rock format.
Outside the morning show, Floorwax performed stand-up comedy and sang in the Groove Hawgs, the blues-rock band he formed with Lewis and other Colorado musicians.
Health and later work
Floorwax stepped away from KRFX in 2014 and later disclosed that he had been dealing with severe clinical depression. He returned to Denver radio as a guest in 2018 and resumed occasional comedy work. In a 2023 interview, he discussed his recovery and plans to develop a podcast with comedian and former Colorado radio personality Steve “Mudflap” McGrew.
