KKML was adopted on 1300 AM in Colorado Springs in 2004 when the former KBZC progressive-talk station flipped to sports.
Branded “Sports Animal 1300,” KKML served as Colorado Springs’ dedicated sports-talk outlet. A 2004 radio-monitoring report confirms that former progressive-talk station KBZC had become KKML “Sports Animal,” and an official 2007 Air Force Athletics schedule lists KKML among the outlets carrying Falcons women’s basketball. On June 29, 2008, Citadel ended the 24-hour sports format and changed the on-air brand to KCS 1300 classic country. The current 1300 AM successor uses the KCSF calls and Xtra Sports Radio 1300 name, with sports programming.
