KMPZ-FM, the 88.1 MHz licensed facility serving Salida, Nathrop, and Buena Vista as part of the KCME public-radio service.
History and programming: KCME’s official history describes its 88.1 Salida-area signal as part of the network carrying the independent station’s classical programming. FCC-derived facility records show KMPZ call letters assigned in 2008. The Salida Chamber likewise identifies KCME/KMPZ as an independent public-radio service available locally. The KMPZ call sign therefore identifies the local licensed facility; KCME is the programming identity and organization presented to listeners.
The separate call sign and program service are both retained here to distinguish local transmission facilities from the station heard over them. The sources cited do not provide a complete earlier chronology for KMPZ itself.
