The 95.5 FM facility serving Pueblo and Southern Colorado traces to KAVI-FM, which signed on in May 1966 at 95.9 FM from Rocky Ford. The station moved to 95.5 in 1989.
The call letters changed to KOOO in 1999, KJQY in 2002 and KPHT in 2005. In 2009 the station adopted a classic-hits presentation that became closely associated with the “95.5 The Mountain” identity.

KAVI-FM began broadcasting at 95.9 MHz. The FM facility later increased dramatically in coverage and moved to 95.5 MHz in 1989; it survives as the station now known as KPHT.
