KYGO-FM

KYGO-FM (98.5 MHz), branded “98.5 KYGO,” is a commercial country music radio station licensed to Denver, Colorado. History

The 98.5 FM facility began broadcasting on December 1, 1953, as KFML-FM, paired with KFML 1390 AM. It later used the KIMN-FM call letters and initially aired a softer album-rock format. The KYGO identity was adopted in 1979. On July 7, 1980, the station changed to a country format under program director Bob Call, becoming Denver’s first FM country station. The first country song played after the format change was Charlie Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

The station became KYGO-FM in 1988, when 950 AM also adopted the KYGO call letters and carried a classic country format. Jefferson-Pilot acquired the station in 1974; Lincoln Financial Media succeeded Jefferson-Pilot’s broadcasting division in 2006. Entercom acquired Lincoln Financial Media in 2015 and operated KYGO under an interim agreement before transferring it to Bonneville International in November of that year.
