Garret Doll

Garret Doll is a country-radio programmer, manager and air personality whose Colorado career included a long tenure at KYGO-FM (98.5 KYGO) in Denver.

If you listened to Denver country radio from the late 1990s into the 2000s, you heard the station Garret helped shape. Radio & Records reported in June 1997 that Doll had been named promotion director for KYGO-AM and FM. He went on to spend roughly sixteen years with KYGO in several programming and promotional roles, including assistant program director, music director and promotion director. During that run he also appeared on air and became part of the station’s country-radio community.

Later career

After Denver, Doll worked at Westwood One and programmed WCKN in Charleston, South Carolina. From 2016 through 2025 he served as program director and air personality at WKHK (K95) in Richmond, Virginia. In January 2026, Townsquare Media named him brand manager and morning host at WOKQ in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Cat Collins

Cat Collins was the programmer behind the Denver station that turned hip-hop and R&B into a mainstream sound. If you were driving around Denver circa 2000 with KS107.5 on the dial, his playlist was in your ears.

Starting out

Cat’s radio career kicked off in 1983 with a part-time on-air gig in San Luis Obispo, California. Denver came after stops in San Jose, in Rochester, New York, and in Boston, where he served at WJMN as assistant program director and music director.

KS107.5

The program director’s chair at KQKS became his in 1998. With him in charge, the station pushed deeper into hip-hop and R&B while holding on to a broad-appeal rhythmic Top 40 sound. In the spring 2000 ratings, KS107.5 finished on top among listeners 12 and older, a Denver first for its format, and it did especially well with 18 to 34-year-olds.

He shaped the station’s local identity too. He started the annual KS107.5 Summer Jam at Fiddler’s Green, and he gave DJ Chonz his break on commercial radio with a live afternoon mix show. By 2008, Westword was describing KS107.5 as a station that always scored big in the ratings, and it gave Cat the credit for reviving what had long been a laggard.

Back to San Francisco

In October 2008, after ten years in Denver, Cat left KQKS to become program director of rhythmic Top 40 KYLD (Wild 94.9) back in his hometown of San Francisco.

Archer

Archer is a Denver classic-rock personality and Beatles historian, and anyone who spent Sunday mornings with the Fab Four on the radio probably knew his voice. He was part of the original lineup of on-air “Mountain guides” at KQMT-FM (99.5 The Mountain).

The Beatles guy

His specialty show was Breakfast with the Beatles, on Sundays, where he drew on decades of Beatles research and interviews for Denver listeners. That depth made reporters on the national and international level turn to him when Beatles recordings were in the news. In 2004, when supposed “lost” Beatles tapes made headlines, the Associated Press quoted him knocking down the claims and described him as a top authority on the band, among the best anywhere.

Mornings on The Mountain

Archer had been there since the early days of The Mountain, and he became a real favorite with listeners over time, hosting mornings along the way.

The 2008 shakeup

Early in 2008, with the station heading toward a broader classic-rock format, The Mountain and Archer parted ways. Bigger airshifts then went to Mike Casey and Robbie Knight.

Pete MacKay

Pete MacKay is an award-winning Colorado radio personality. If you grew up on Denver alternative, classic rock or a late-night specialty show, odds are good you’ve spent time with Pete.

Denver mornings and specialty shows

Pete was already a longtime Denver voice by the 1990s. He co-hosted mornings with Mari Szatkowski at KXPK-FM (96.5 The Peak) and hosted classic-rock specialty programming, including Classic Rock Archives and Nostalgic Rock.

One of The Mountain’s guides

At KQMT-FM (99.5 The Mountain), Pete became one of the station’s best-known “Mountain guides” and held afternoon drive after the station’s 2008 lineup reorganization. His run there ended in 2009, the same year Steve Millin left too. Westword called him a Denver longtimer who had been named the city’s top DJ in its 2004 Best of Denver edition.

Later Colorado work

Pete kept making Colorado music programming. His Mile Stones with Pete MacKay — Bastille, produced for KKVM-FM in Vail, was recognized in the Colorado Broadcasters Association’s 2014 awards.
